Separation: A Good Time to Rewrite Your Will

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/c5nuNmA8Ufk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

A very good time to write or rewrite your will is after you have separated from your spouse or common law partner. If you have an existing will, it likely lists your spouse or partner as a significant or even sole beneficiary. This is great when you’re in love, but when the relationship is falling apart, you don’t necessarily want to leave everything to the person who took half the furniture and your favourite DVDs. Even if you die without a will, your spouse or partner may be entitled to a share (or all) of your assets under intestate succession legislation, such as the Intestate Succession Act in Alberta.  Again, think of the DVDs you’ll never watch again and the favourite chair that’s gone forever because of this person.

Calgary Legal Wills FAQ - Burial or Cremation Wishes

<iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/1fFGmK6eEfs" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Calgary Legal Wills FAQ - Should I indicate my funeral and burial/cremation wishes in my will?

Answer:
You can certainly indicate such wishes in your will. However, there are a couple things to consider. You should make sure that your funeral wishes aren’t so lavish that it bankrupts your estate. The other thing to consider is that a will may not be carefully read until after you are dead and buried. For this reason, I suggest making your funeral wishes known to family members prior to your death.

pest control in San Antonio TX

Almost as devastating as a fire or flood, the diagnosis of a termite problem may be one of the worst things that can happen to your home. Termites cause billions of dollars in damage a year in the United States, but can be stopped if the termites are found soon enough and you contact pest control in San Antonio TX as soon as possible.
A termite infestation may not be noticeable until it’s too late, which is why it is important to look for tell tell signs:
  • floors that sag
  • holes in wood
  • parts of foundation that are hollow
  • you may even find termite waste, wings or the termites themselves
  • You can also do some checks around your home to determine if you have a termite problem:
  • test the wood of foundation beams for strength and/or hollowness
  • look for termite nests around your property

  • Subterranean termites are the most common type found in Texas. They thrive in both the soil around a structure and the wood inside of a structure. Subterranean termites may cause more damage than other types of termites, which is why it is important to contact pest control in San Antonio TX for the best form of treatment to get rid of the infestation.

There are a few ways to kill termites yourself, such as setting them out in the sun or freezing them, but contacting a professional is the best way in most cases to fully eradicate them.
Fortunately there are measures you can take to prevent an infestation. Termites enjoy damp places, so keep your home dry by fixing leaks and clearing out standing water. Also, make sure any wood on your property is properly covered and dry to deter termites from nesting. Prevent termites from even entering by making sure cracks are sealed, caulk windows and doorways to block off entrances, and check that screen doors and windows are in good repair.
A study has shown that fifty percent of homes have a termite problem. Fifty percent. Romney Pest Control in San Antonio TX trusts only the brand Termidor for termite infestations. Calgary Legal Wills Question - Wipe-Out Clause

    <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/LqbJdDnOyrI" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Calgary Legal Wills Question: I have a young family. I know that I should provide for my spouse and children in my will. What happens if we all die at the same time, say in a car accident?

Answer: It is a good idea to have a clause in your will that is sometimes morbidly referred to as a “wipe-out clause”. A wipe-out clause stipulates beneficiaries in the event that your immediate family members have all died. Typically, a wipe-out clause will leave assets to parents, siblings, and/or nieces and nephews. In some cases, wipe-out clauses will leave assets to friends or charities.

Canada Immigration Questions - Permanent Residency and Live-in Caregiver Program

"Immigration FAQ 1 - What are your thoughts on the Live-in Caregiver Program? Ans: For people who qualify under this program, it can be a good way of obtaining permanent residency. However, sometimes live-in caregivers find themselves in employment situations in which they are vulnerable to bad treatment from their employers. There are supposed to be legal safeguards against this, but live-in caregivers are still often victimized. As well, the live-in caregiver program frequently separates the caregiver from his or her family for an extended period of time. This can have the effect of breaking up families. Immigration FAQ 2 - I have a lot of money, but would not currently qualify under the skilled worker category or the Canadian experience class. As well, my English is poor. Are there any investor programs or other programs that I might use to qualify to permanent residency? Ans: From my perspective, the federal investor program is not a promising option. It is constantly being revised, and the wait times can be staggering. There are typically only brief windows during which the program is accepting new applicants. Another option, if you have the funds, may be to study ESL in Canada and then complete a degree or certificate program here in Canada. After you complete the program you will likely be able to apply for a post-graduate work permit, and eventually obtain permanent residency through the Canadian Experience Class or the skilled worker program. However, this last strategy is more suited to younger applicants. Calgary Legal Will Frequently Asked Question - Alberta Will

Q: Is a will drafted in Alberta valid in other countries?

    Answer:
In many countries, a will drafted in Alberta would likely be valid. Such countries are probably those that have a legal system similar to the one used in Alberta, which is derived from the English common law legal tradition. I recommend that clients who are planning on living in any country outside of Canada check with a lawyer in that country to determine whether their Alberta wills would be considered valid.
